By David Whipkey Clint Session: Colts linebacker: Session enjoyed his best day as a pro with nine tackles and a game-clinching 27 yard interception return for a touchdown in Indianapolis’ 35-27 win over Houston. Indianapolis remains perfect at 11-0. Darrelle Revis: Jets cornerback: Revis turned in a signature performance in the Jets 17-6 win over Carolina. The third-year pro intercepted Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme twice and returned one of the picks for a 67 yard touchdown. LaRod Stephens-Howling: Cardinals kick returner: Stephens-Howling was a bright spot in Arizona’s 20-17 loss at Tennessee. The rookie returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and gave the Cards momentum before the Titans won on the game’s last play. Antonio Bryant: Buccaneers receiver: Bryant has struggled this season with an injured knee along with an uncertain situation at quarterback. But the veteran did his best to keep the Bucs competitive with a three-catch, 91-yard performance at Atlanta. His 42 yard touchdown catch gave Tampa Bay life, but Atlanta still earned a 20-17 win. LeSean McCoy: Eagles running back: McCoy gained 101 yards combined rushing and receiving and scored an important two-point conversion in the Eagles come-from-behind 27-24 win over the Washington Redskins. Shawntae Spencer: 49ers cornerback: Spencer logged six tackles in the Niners 20-3 shelling of Jacksonville. By David Whipkey LeSean McCoy: Eagles running back: Shady took advantage of Brian Westbrook’s injury and was the starter in the backfield Sunday against the New York Giants. McCoy was a key instrument in the Eagles 40-17 win over New York. He finished with 82 yards on 11 carries and added a 66-yard touchdown run late in the contest. Andy Lee: 49ers punter: Lee helped keep the high-powered Colts offense pinned deep all day long. He averaged 46 yards per punt on eight boots. Four of his kicks were downed inside the 20 yard line and he blasted one punt 59 yards. Shawntae Spencer 49ers cornerback: Spencer was a part of a defense that held Indianapolis’ offense in check. He finished with eight solo tackles in the Niners 18-14 loss to the undefeated Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Clint Session: Colts linebacker: Session was a rock for the Colts defense and finished with eight total tackles. Indianapolis came from behind to earn a tough 18-14 win over visiting San Francisco. Jeff Otah: Panthers right tackle: Otah’s work on Carolina’s offensive line helped pave the way for 270 yards rushing in the Panthers 34-21 win at Arizona Sunday night. Larry Fitzgerald: Cardinals receiver: Fitzgerald continued his strong 2009 campaign with six catches for 66 yards in the Cardinals 34-21 loss to visiting Carolina. Gerald Hayes: Cardinals linebacker: Hayes was one of the few defensive bright spots during Sunday’s 34-21 loss to Carolina. He finished with eight total tackles. LaRod Stephens-Howling: Cardinals running back/kick returner: The rookie continues to display his versatility in the desert. Stephens-Howling scored his first NFL touchdown, a 14-yard scoring grab in the first quarter of Arizona’s 34-21 loss to Carolina. He also averaged 31.5 yards per kickoff return. Week two’s highlights included: Darrelle Revis, New York Jets cornerback: Revis continued his stellar early 2009 season by shutting down another premium wide receiver. One week after stifling Houston’s Andre Johnson, Revis again displayed his coverage skills by limiting New England’s Randy Moss to 24 yards receiving on four receptions. Revis also contributed five tackles and one interception of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in New York’s 16-9 win at the Meadowlands. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals receiver: Fitzgerald helped the Cards rebound after a disappointing season opening loss to San Francisco. The current Madden ’10 video game cover boy hauled in a 22-yard scoring pass from Kurt Warner in Arizona’s 31-17 win over host Jacksonville. Fitzgerald finished with four catches for 34 yards in the win. Gerald Hayes, Arizona Cardinals linebacker: Hayes was a stabilizing force in Arizona’s defense during their 31-17 win at Jacksonville. Hayes finished with three tackles and assisted the defense in holding the Jaguars to 92 yards rushing. LaRod Stephens-Howling, Arizona Cardinals kick returner: The rookie finished with 14 yards rushing on two carries and added 25 yards worth of kick return yardage. Shawntae Spencer, San Francisco 49ers cornerback: Spencer is fast becoming a force in San Francisco’s secondary. Spencer finished with two tackles in their 23-10 win over Seattle and helped hold the Seahawks to 224 yards passing. Andy Lee, San Francisco 49ers punter: Lee kept Seattle’s offense pinned deep all day Sunday. The sixth-year punter averaged 40 yards per punt on six boots in Sunday’s 23-10 over the Seahawks. LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles running back: Shady made things happen Sunday when he touched the ball in Philadelphia’s 48-22 loss to the New Orleans Saints. McCoy finished with 18 yards on three carries and added 37 yards receiving on four receptions. |
